I'd love it to be "the gay song" but it's not.. listen to the lyrics. He's singing it from the perspective of a girl finding her boyfriend cheating. Comes across gay because obviously he's a guy. It's ambiguous but:

"found you in the arms of another girl."

haha, its gay.. althought he want to hide it, its pure gayness and i love it

I think it's kind of pretentious to think you can just appropriate a song for an entire community. Art is ambiguous and it's meant for whoever finds meaning in it: straight, gay, bi, sideways or whomever.

"Clever liar, foolin' us all
Never thought I'd work it out
How could I have known it was ever about you boy?
Now there's nothin' to say, cos there's no words
And we're not talkin' anyhow
You must have known I was never to doubt you boy

If it was so fine, it was so good
Oh you're unbelievable
All this time I've been living without you boy
But not your lyin'
It felt so good, the world don't know
Now they'll never find out
How all these years she must've been beside you boy
Don't forget that I

Was the one that you found
And if I know you
You'll find me someplace new
I hope I never, I hope I never have to
We're a waste of time
And if I know you, learned long ago it's true
I hope I never, I hope I never have to

Go and explain, explain it again, boy that this all started
Found you lying in the arms of another girl
So stop your crying
Day after day, year after year
Far too long it lasted
You must have thought I was nothing without you boy
Don't forget that I

Was the one that you found
And if I know you
You'll find me someplace new
I hope I never, I hope I never have to
We're a waste of time
And if I know you, learned long ago it's true
I hope I never, I hope I never have to

And tonight, if we learn that the world's on fire
I guess I'll turn to you
I hope I never, I hope I never have to

I fail to find
So hard to find
And I can't find a way for you and I to go far...(?)

I'm always learning things the hard, hard, hardest way.

Cos I was the one, that you found
And if I know you, you'll find me someplace new
I hope you never, I hope you never get to

Tonight, if we learn that the world's on fire
I guess I'll turn to you
I hope I never, I hope I never have to."

Travis (above) is obviously right. the most important word in the song is "another"; if you understand what that word means then you understand that a girl is singing the song. that's how language works, kids! :-)

reminds me of the stranglers

But what if it's not meant to be sexually ambiguous... it's quite possible that the subject of the song (the boy) is simply bisexual... going back to the arms of "another" girl. The word "another" may just be suggesting that this boy has been in the arms of a GIRL before, and is now in the arms of ANOTHER GIRL... that doesn't necessarily mean that the teller of this story/song is a girl. So whether The Presets are telling it from the point of view of a girl or a gay, technically, it can work both way =)

Bleh, why have a guy sing from a girls perspective and have two guys 'wrestling' in the video. They're obviously trying to please the gay community.

Not my cup of tea.

i think its meant to be ambiguous but it is supposed to be suggestive to any relationship. this is just my opinion, but i listened to the song and lyrics over and over and i didnt actually come up with as easy a scenario as from a girls perspective.

haha the scenario my mind came up with was that the guy singing had a guy friend who cheated on his girlfriend that the singing guy was actually in love with.and that the two men were best friends but the singing character hated his friend for giving that all away.

i know that scenario isn't the accurate one but it reflects how open to interpretation the lyrics are meant to be. we do live in a sexually free society today and its meant to mean whatever the listener wants it to mean to them.

personally, this is my favourite song on the whole apocalypso album its so mellow and soft but then the lyrics really cut to the core. beautiful.

just a side note to this essay, i love the singers voice. i love that he doesnt always hit the exact note and sometimes sounds a little off, especially on this track. gorgeous.
