Exclusive: Better Than Dub!

He says Alternative we say DUB - this is the original version Lionel Flairs made 3 years ago when 'Better Than Prince' was just an instrumental electro disco track.

This version is obviously more sinister, has a heavier bassline & works its submarine echoed bleeps like a whore in a brothel - Foam gun bursting dirty.

DL: Flairs - Better Than Prince (Flairs 05 Alternative Version)

"I'm in the process of signing with a coool french label, next single in Oct and Album in Jan 09" -Flairs

Annie

Really cute video of Sam Sparro shooting 5 Questions at Annie! - Below is the the Lifelike remix of the Ercola/Annie collaboration but in a much better quality than the choked/smothered version that's been circulating the blogs since back then (Ripped straight off the promo CD).

DL: Ercola - Follow Me (ft. Annie) (Lifelike Remix)

In another interview for Digital Spy here's what Annie had to say about Madonna's4 Minutes:

Your debut single featured a Madonna sample, so it seems silly not to ask you this: what do you think of her new stuff?"

I haven't heard it. I only heard the first single and I'm not really into it. I don't think it's that good - it doesn't sound that much like Madonna and it's a bit uninteresting. I should check out the album really before I say any more!"

60s 70s 80s

If you missed this in march - "60s 70s 80s" is the 33rd single and the first triple A-Side single released by Amuro Namie, and contains a total of three songs, "New Look", "Rock Steady", and "What A Feeling". Each of these three songs is used in a massive campaign ad for Vidal Sassoon's latest shampoo and conditioner products. In addition, each song represents a certain time period starting with the 1960's, then 1970's, and finally 1980's.

The last song, "What A Feeling" represents the 1980's and features samples from Irene Cara's "What a Feeling", which was used as the theme for the 1983 film Flashdance.

Shinichi Ōsawa co. produced "What A Feeling" and remixed it.

DL: Namie Amuro - What A Feeling
DL: Namie Amuro - What A Feeling (Shinichi Osawa Remix)

The remix is synthelicious and has that t-rex throwing a rampage tantrum oomph that Detonator had on Osawa's LP. Love.

Thanx to Zeon for the Mp3s!

#1

The melodic punk tunes makers have dusted their second hand snatched-from-junkyards equipments to make some more amazing not-super-high-pitched-this-time nor set-to-full-volume pop tune!

It seems like they are taking a break from injecting their productions with ear drum busting & severe migraine inducing distortion.

I think the mysterious Bitchee Bitchee is Princess Peach & Ya Ya Ya is probably DJ/Producer Bowser - because that's the only reasonable explanation to this awesome new videogame love theme!

DL: Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya - Love Beauty #1

Didn't expect them to be able to go softer and still ROCKKK, if you still crave for their mayhem disability then head to their official Myspace to download 'Before' off the player for free.. ohh and if you missed their previous releases then go here!

(I know this has been postd on other blogs a month ago but i just found out after my long come and i'm excited) Severly Recommended.

Love Motel.

Love Motel are Christian/Hawaiian/Death Metal music makers/pedophile-dress-a-likes from Genève (Switzerland) whom influenced by cool guys that are all dead! They have a 12 track album titled 'Mind the Void' which is pretty cool in a french-electro-noise-rock way that i'm not sure if i'm supposed to be sharing it or not, even though they sent a megaupload link of it.
They probably make their music in a desperately-in-need-for-renovation motel between hooker switching shifts who come in to help remix their work.
Below is a package of the remixes done by some recently-became-flashy names (to those hardcore blog peeping indies) - I only get to post a couple so here they are:

01. Cosmic Love (Anderson Vila Nova remix)
02. Cosmic Love (Fisk Remix)
03. Cosmic Love (Grum Remix)
04. Cosmic Love (Julien Milan Remix)
05. Dial God (USA) (Be Trash Remixx)

15. Mind the void (Baxter Beez edit)
16. Nothing Hurts (Shane Fontane Remix)
17. Soft (GlitchBitch Re-flex)

...and here's a track from the album which i hope some designer will use it for his runway show or maybe porno?

DL: Love Motel - L'Enfer

*PS. Most of their songs are in english.

James Pants.

Unusual and un-categorizable, James Pants music is a pair of jeans that looks good on anyone, with anything anmd anywhere - blending un-even portions of everything from '80s Soul, Electro Boogie, Early Rap, New Wave, Indie, Lo-Fi, Funk & Post-Punk Disco, making a weird but swallowable style that you appropriately can never put your finger on.

His first single 'We're Through' from the album 'Welcome' is probably the most retroestically fresh track i've heard in a while with it's electronically tribalesque beat, crystallized cowbellism & faggy vocals.

DL: James Pants - We're Through

"Next big thing to watch for in 2008"
BUSY P (Daft Punk Manager, Ed Banger)

"Future Shock-era Herbie Hancock, L.A. electro, New Age-y French disco, and Paradise Garage love-funkists Skyy may inform the tracks on Welcome, but while the record borrows from these and other roller-rink-friendly '80s grooves, it's no jukebox-style revue."
XLR8R

"Tracks on Welcome take in everything from electro to 80s soul, new wave and 60s psych, but all of them share the same lo-fi punk aesthetic and are adorned with Pants' unique quirky shouting and falsetto vocals"
DAZED & CONFUSED

The artwork above of the album was done by acclaimed Dutch artist - Parra (who did the Teenage Badgirl artwork) and stay tuned to forthcoming remixes by A-Trak & DJ Mehdi.

You can watch the video here & here's what James Pants look like Geeky & Cool.

Dangerous Love Juice.

Ol' Visitors of Ohh! Crapp... Sure know how much we love these 2 electro heads and we've been waiting for their have-been-taking-ages-to-be-released-with-no-confirmed-date-yet EP.

Anyhoo... the mysterious, dark and animated frenchie Danger have attacked 'Love Juice' with his chaotic synths and we support it.

Those Dancing Days!

Signed to Witchita Records with the you-know-whos like Bloc Party, The BumbleBeez, Peter Bjorn and John & Simian Mobile Disco, a five piece all vaginas band from sweden named after a Led Zeppelin song. I found out about them while interviewing Big Face when i asked him if there's any new talents that pulled his attention at the time.

The girls had a 5 track Selftitled EP released independently before they got signed to Witchita and proceeded with releasing the second (first being 'Hitten') commercial single 'Run Run' from their upcoming album.

Imagine the Sugababes vocals accompanied by a faux-sounding Hammond organ in an Austin Powers or a Quentin Tarrantino movie score.

The illustration for the EP was done by Jacob Frossen who also does T-shirt designs for the ever awesome and affordable H&M.

Justesse - No Stress.

Either Meh or ROFL.

ART-Official!

Whether you think I’m delusional or not, 'Artificial' sounds like an artificial Kris Menace instrumental rework of Daft Punk's 'Around The World' with dingy synths from Felix Da Housecat... if not for the 'Hmmm!?' sensation then categorically for the bassline (thanks to Fred Falke).

efinitely an effective combination, it just makes sense that this trio could synchronize and come up with a fine piece.

'Artificial' is to be loved from the first play but not to be decoded and taken too seriously because it’s just one of those tunes you enjoy without thinking.

All That Junk Inside The Trunk!

Ok So I've been away for months and a lot of people thought it was okay for them to throw their junk into my inbox! Anyhoo, Here's 20% of all.. if you dig and look carefully you might find some gems among the crap!

LA Riots in conjunction with Scion have created the new Scion Remix compilation Volume 20! This record was distributed for free at the tour that took place on the tour last month. You can stream the full album here!
LA Riots invited friends Bloody Beetroots, Le Castle Vania, Phones Collateral Damage and White Noise to remix a few tracks on the sampler as well.

Futurecop! sent in a mix of one of their australian shows which you can DL below. Now regarding their supposed-to-be-out-already EP, here's what Manzur said: We're still getting remixes in for the ep, so waiting on that. plus getting a manager in a few days, so just looking over contract - boring! we wanna really do more shows aswell before we release it. Can't tell you who's remixing yet (the label - sorry) - you might already know some of them anyway, I'm not allowed to say but if you go thru few myspaces youll find out!!

I had a couple mp3 only eps come out on Borrowdeer records in the last few months, titled 'Hold Up The Neon Sign'.

I'm also doing a slightly strange thing with this ep. I will write and record a song for anyone who buys the ep here.

The song can be about whatever the person wants. It can be a song for
a significant other, or about their favorite music blog, or even about what they wore today. More info on this
here!

Here is an INCREDIBLE remix from Dubstep genius Skream! of The Bug's "Poison Dart" ft. Warrior Queen. This track is blown up in the UK already and is currently up on the Forkcast, but it's time for all of you to get into it! His album London Zoo is out July 29th on Ninja Tune...

DL: Barringtone vs. FRANKMUSIK - Snake In The Grass

'Snake In The Grass' is the debut single from Barringtone, the latest incarnation of Barry Dobbin, frontman of the now demised schizoid electronic rockers Clor. Produced by fellow sonic traveller Jas Shaw of Simian Mobile Disco, it's a startling, dramatic and ever so slightly deranged slice of future retro pop.
Picking up from where Clor left off, Barringtone and their discordant pop madness are sure to be one of the most talked about new bands of 2008. Their music oozes with the same genius jerky post punk electronic energy which will make you want to dance your sweaty socks off.

Outputmessage and I, Micah Vellian, are both high school teachers at a JROTC public charter school in Northeast DC. Outputmessage teaches math, while I teach remedial reading. We have been talking about starting a project where we’d produce dance music combining our love of electronic, disco, soul, and pop music ever since we met back in college at Virginia Tech circa 2001. So when we were finally able to start off our project, amid our daily dealings with discipline and mischief, it was only fitting that we would call ourselves, Dmerit. In addition to being teachers by day, we both moonlight as djs during our monthly in DC called, Marquis. We’ve both been busy coming up with at least one remix a month, since January, to help celebrate our dance night.

Here are a few of our most current remixes (all at 320kbps):
We are planning on releasing a single soon on Swedish Columbia and we’ll be sure to let everyone know once we do. Hope you dig the tracks!

"Starfucker's forthcoming self-titled album is a fine piece of fractured, homemade pop, with handclaps, bleary synths, drum machines, clunky acoustic guitars, and honeyed lo-fi harmonies...You might not be able to give a star some love in your bedroom, German or otherwise, but as long as dudes like Starfucker can keep churning out catchy electro-pop from theirs, there's no need to create an international incident over it." -Pitchfork Media

Here's the B-side 'Done Done' from the 'In Step' new single. The B-side is about an ex-girlfriend who 'tore my heart to pieces' through infidelity. It aches and soars with teenage tenderness, like M83 if they were in-thrall to 80s British pop.

Are you a fan of Liam Finn? He's finally releasing his debut album I'll Be Lightning in the UK through Transgressive (Foals, Young Knives etc) on 14th July, with the single 'Second Chance' out on the 30th June. If you have seen/heard of his live show, you'll know it's just electrifying and this track - 'I Will Explode' - shows another side to Liam, a harder edge to him.

Jon Foreman’s solo project is coming to completion as the last installment of the 2-disc Spring/Summer EPs is released on June 24th. The records have garnered quite a bit of attention! In fact, “The Cure For Pain”, from Fall, was used in the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy.

Hey guys, love your blog...
We are hundreds and thousands from Melbourne Australia, thought we would send you two originals. A third is almost complete.

Hi!
We are Cof Cof, a Spanish duo of Lofi/Tropical/Latin/Chiptune/Club/Pop (or something like that...) and we think our music could interest you.

You can download our full demo here.

And our myspace is.

Hola,
Here is Faker's upcoming single, 'Sleepwalking', remixed by Melbourne duo, Hong Kong Blondes.

2008 is rapidly starting to look like the Year Of The Pier. Following the amazing response to Late Of The Pier's last single ‘The Bears Are Coming’ (released on their own Zarcorp label), the Castle Donington quartet return with a new double A-side single ‘Space And The Woods’ / ‘Focker’.
Tracklisting:
Space And The Woods (Switch remix)/Space And The Woods (C90s remix)/Space And The Woods (Primary 1 remix)/Focker (Rolmops remix)

REWIND,
We are glad to present two new premieres from Rewind, the 80's cover project by Buffetlibre Dj's, that will appear 1st July.

We have many new confirmations in the line up. Line Up (producers and bands): Whitey, Dragonette, Mr. Miyagi, Passions, Pomomofo, The Toxic Avenger, Electric Soft Parade, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, Purple Crush, !Trash Yourself, South Central, RAC, We Were The States, Moulinex, ER2, Russ Chimes, The Shoes, Fisk & Blende, The Cloud Room, Grum, Sidechains, Culture Prophet, Mark Mallman, Xinobi, Ruby Isle, Pink Skull, Friday Bridge, Cloetta Paris, Tknik, The Sound Of Arrows, Black Dominoes, Levy, Anoraak, Joe And Will Ask, Glitch Bitch, Beesmunt Soundsystem, Cryptonites, UMYO, Canadians, Oh Snap!, Cannonball Jane, Royal Rumble, Northern Portrait, Saint Bernardette, CFCF, Hello Tokyo, Damage, Keenhouse, Database, The Missiles, The Paper Scissors, Lucknow Pact, The Amplid, Fatels, Adventure Kid, Clash The Disko Kids, Emotiquon, Csk Ok, Computer Club, Facteur, NRK, Lillica Libertine, Low Cost, PYT, Mojib, Daroc, Tempest Disco, Band in Box, We Are Soldiers We Have Guns, The Social Services, Loud Pipes, James Husband, Mat Payne, Calling In Sick, Night Facilities, Vitaminsforyou, Hidden Cat, Horthy.

After adrenaline fuelled supports slots with New Young Pony Club, Gossip, Presets, Foals, Wombats and Goose, it is unsurprising that they are considered Liverpool’s most intense live act: exhilarating.

Simon Hilton (Drums, Percussion) , Nathan Walczak (Vocals, Guitars, Synthesisers) , Nicholas Bentley (Guitars, Synthesisers, Laptops, Programming)

These three ‘Scousers’ (or 'Liverpudlians' as they also fondly called) churn out electro synth-fed creations- like the Liverpudlian version of NY’s electro-rock duo Shy Child (with guitar). Then again, the track “Death Letters” also has a bit of a shoe-gaze edge ala Interpol. RCRDLBL

And Some More:

Lots of FRANKMUSIK & LOTP goodies i'll say!

OH THE JOY

Welcome to 1990. Your hair is an abundance of gel and hairspray, your dance moves are “Phat” and sadly, your internet is at dial-up speed.

I somehow managed to grind away every little kilobitch of usage available and now - reaping the rewards of a 56 kb/s connection. This hasn’t discouraged me entirely though; I’ve been catching up on current fashion trends. Turns out I didn’t need to catch up at all. A trend within a trend perhaps? Everything from the 80’s-90’s is back in full circulation.

So what is it i've learnt while riding my turtle? Fashion trends are recurring, peaking in popularity and then being deemed "uncool" or unfit for use until they are once again introduced in another decade. So next time your cleaning out your wardrobe, save yourself some money.. and keep your clothes.

I'm definitely buying the jacket by the way.

A Very Warm Welcome

For those of you who haven't heard, onewordfish.com has recently been de-activated (although it's still visible) due to a breach of terms. Shortly after I sent out news of this I received an e-mail from Faisal with a proposal too good to decline. The crew at fish have now merged with the Oh-Crappers creating a tremendous combination of iTalent.

Santi White aka Santogold is generating some serious ripples at the moment. With the release of her debut album “Santogold”, her soon to commence expedition with Coldplay and her recent collaboration with Pharrell and Julien Casablancas (The Strokes) - it’s evident she really is better than good; she is gold - she is Santogold.

Santogold has been received positively; the album was given four out of five stars by
the prestigious Rolling Stones magazine, saying that Santogold "mixes dub, electronic and indie rock for one of the year's most unique debuts."

Looks like Justice is an intentional coincidental formation. The Cross shiners first track came to life in 2003 when the duo produced tracks together as JUSTICE for a compilation called 'Musclorvision's Hits Up To You', a concept album where fake tracks were deliberately made to sound like they were meant for the Eurovision song contest.

The participants were asked to compose and record a hit according to the timeless equation: High Standard Verses + Catchy Chorus + Clever Bridge!

The newly weds (at the time) came up with 2 tracks:
01. Justice - Intro

While the mustachioed ½ 'Gaspard Augé' contributed with a solo track under his moniker Microloisir !

07. Microloisir - Back In Your Eyes
