Visionary ‘Sebastien Tellier’ lordly established his spot as one of the avant-garde artists of the Parisian Nu-wave & contemporary pop scene, procreating some of the most eclectic cinematic Pieces & luxuriant orchestral pop in the past few years, explaining why his latest offering ‘Sexuality’ became one of the most anticipated albums of 2008 but let’s not overlook the fact that Pretty much a big percentage of the hype relates to one ½ of Daft Punk ‘Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo’ whose produced the whole thing, Though; The big question is ‘Will Guy-Manuel Overpower Over Tellier & Steal The Lights?’ The answer is simply, Nope.
Guy-Manuel provides dense synth injected retro-futuristic pop melodies & tap-tunk-knocking drum machine co-ordinations that resurrect the vintage flamboyance & originality of progressive pop of the 70s & 80s, while Tellier elevates it with his delicate musk scented vocals & neo-pagan poetry. The Bi-lingual record successfully amalgamate the extravagant 50 minutes with its sensuality concept while each track still maintains its physical entity and unique texture, from the urban-esque electro rote of the opening track ‘Roche’, through the enticing Calvin Harris channelling zap-zap synth riffs of ‘Kilometer’, the addictive The-Beatles-like cosmic Mmm-Bop looper ‘Divine’, the hypnotising erotic fantasy provoking ‘Pomme’, to the minimal closing track ‘L'Amour Et La Violence’ whose first two minutes immediately pays homage to ‘La Ritournelle’.
Tellier has translated foreplay into music & intoxicated it with female Oohs, Ahhs & enough moans to start an argument on whether this album was recorded in some high society boudoir or a 70s porn movie set. An aural aphrodisiac made with an intention of inducing the cravings for lovemaking & conveying the suppressed passion, even Tellier swoons, coos, and come-hithers.

‘Sexuality’ is his first commercially accessible record but its leisurely susceptibility demands to be listened to privately & entirely as it’s strictly made for the aficionados; this is not something you want your 6 year old nephew singing, nor played loud in your room with your door locked, you get the best out of the experience through your headphones, on your bed, in the dark… Pure Aural Pleasure.

Completely agreed on ALL counts here. The artwork is so lush and matches the album PERFECTLY. If not already, I have a feeling JJJ are going to get behind this record, or at least some of the tracks on it. They've been (rightfully) totally lapping up the latest Hot Chip stuff.
